POSITION VACANT – FULL TIME – 4.4.2018

This is primarily outdoor work, it is messy, hot and can be stressful at times. But it is also very rewarding.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Feed and provide fresh water daily to all animals at the Alice Springs Shelter and Alice Springs Town Council Pound.

Attend to animal hygiene needs such as removal of faeces, hosing and scrubbing of animal housing and bathing of animals according to policies and procedures.

Actively monitor the health status of shelter animals and report any issues or concerns to the Shelter Manager.

Assist shelter manager with management of animals for surgery, vet re-checks, euthanasia and administer medications as directed.

Ensure general health and suitability assessments are completed for all incoming animals as per policies and procedures.

Ensure Shelter premises, including office, toilet and staff areas are kept clean at all times and maintenance or OH&S issues are reported to shelter manager immediately.

Work with other staff and volunteers in such a manner as to ensure an efficient, effective and harmonious working environment.

Undertake office reception activities at the shelter as required including answering phones, assisting with customer enquiries and adoptions, computer data entry and general clerical duties as directed by shelter manager.

Uphold the values and ethics of the Alice Springs Animal Shelter and assist with fundraising events as required.

Other duties as directed by shelter manager and committee of Alice Springs Animal Shelter.

SELECTION CRITERIA

ESSENTIAL
•Demonstrate a respect for all animals and a willingness to adhere to the animal welfare philosophies and policies of the Alice Springs Animal Shelter.
•Demonstrate the ability to work and manage time effectively.
•Have a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
•Be willing to work with animals in distress, displaying aggressive behaviour, in a state of neglect or requiring euthanasia.
•Basic computer skills and the willingness to learn new programs.
•Must be able to be flexible with working hours and be able to work weekends.
•Be eligible for or have a current NT driver’s license.

DESIRABLE
•Experience in customer service.
•Experience of working with animals.
•Awareness of NT Occupational Health & Safety legislation.
•Qualifications in animal care or behaviour.

OTHER INFORMATION
•Completion of Criminal History check may be required
•Appointment to this position is subject to satisfactory completion of a 3 month probationary period.
•Resume must include 2 referees

Roster will be SUNDAY (morning clean and afternoon feed) & MONDAY to THURSDAY 8am to 5pm
